Clayton County Conservation invites you to the Annual Pony Hollow Trail 15k & 5k on October 28, 2023. The 15k race will wind you around the Elkader City Park before taking you out and back on the scenic, flat, lime-chipped Pony Hollow Trail (PHT) and finally ending on a grass mowed firebreak trail. You will appreciate the fall beauty of this lime-chip trail as it meanders in the trees along the Turkey River and Robert’s Creek. The 5k will be a simple out and back on the PHT for runners or walkers.Â
Race swag is only guaranteed to all those that pre-register before October 23rd. All online registrations close at 1 pm on October 27th. Mailed in registrations must also be received by Oct. 27th.Â
5k: $20 thru Oct. 23, $30 race day
15k Adult: $35 thru Oct. 23, $45 race day
15k Child (17 & under): $25 thru Oct. 23, $35 race day
15k for runners only, 5k for runners and walkers.
Packet pickup will be from 7:30-8:45am on race day at the Floral Hall shelter house located in the Elkader City Park. There is also parking and bathrooms located in this area for your convenience. Â Â
Race will start promptly at 9 AM near the south trailhead. No parking will be allowed at the start/finish on High Street. Please use the city park and pool parking lot. Â
The funds raised from this race will be used for future trail expansion efforts to join the two Pony Hollow trail heads into a continuous loop. Part of the funds have been secured through grant dollars (Wellmark Large Match Grant $100,000, Upper Mississippi Gaming Grant $48,375, TAP $192,000) but we need matching dollars to complete the project. Not a runner but still want to support this project? Donations can be accepted at Clayton County Conservation.
We are also looking for volunteers to help on race day. Email Molly mscherf@claytoncountyia.gov to volunteer.Â
