What: 5K Run, half-mile kids run (for 12 and under), 1.5 Mile Fun Walk, + a “Bridging Walk” Fundraising: The Columbus Day Run/Walk is a fundraiser for the Columbus Cross Country Team. It is being planned, organized, and directed by coaches and athletes on the team. When: Saturday, October 8, 2022. The half-mile kids run will start at 8 AM. Both the 5K and 1.5 Mile Fun Walk will begin after that. Or you could do a 5K “Bridging Walk” with Bev Nielsen, starting at 7:15. Bev will be walking on a course that goes through 3 city parks and over 7 footbridges, including the historic Swinging Bridge twice. Where: The runs and walks begin and end at Chautauqua Park, Stephens Street, Columbus Junction, IA 52738. Fees: $15 for all runs and walks. Registration: Participants are encouraged to pre-register but may register on race day from 7:00-7:45 AM at the Chautauqua Park shelter. Mail Registration with Fee to: Steve Riley, 1003 East Oakbrook Lane, Mount Pleasant, IA 52641. Make checks payable to Columbus Community School District. In the memo line, write: Columbus Day 5K. T-shirts for all participants. 5K Age Groups: 14 and Under, 15 – 19, 20 – 29, 30 – 39, 40 – 49, 50 – 59 and 60+. Awards: 5K Run trophies to top male and female runners, with medals awarded to top 3 males and top 3 females in each age group. Half-mile kids’ run participants will receive medals.
